DEPARTMENT/SERVICE PROFILE:

Clinical research focused on education, quality improvements and a culture of patient and family safety will be used to inform and guide best practice standards.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinical Nurse is responsible for competently providing safe and effective care to Women and Children, with minimal supervision by the Clinical Nurse Leader. The Clinical Nurse assesses care needs, plans, implements and evaluates programs of care. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for ensuring that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard.

The Clinical Nurse participates in the supervision and teaching of more junior and new members of staff within the unit.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provides total individualized patient care and assumes accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating therapy needs, discharge planning for each patient and assessing for current and potential problems
Contributes to the achievement of clinical quality outcome indicators and patient satisfaction by demonstration of extraordinary service
Utilizes a professional practice framework and evidence based care, identifies improvement areas while minimizing risks creating care that is optimal for our patients and families
Reports equipment failures, safety and security issues, and/or reduction of supply inventory to Nurse Supervisor or designee
Promotes a safe environment and safe patient care by embracing a safety culture and identifying areas of risk to the Nurse Supervisor
Educates the patient/family and other members of the health care team
Participates in patient education programs and provides consultation to patients/families, staff, community agencies and satellite centres
Participates in service activities that contribute to excellence in outcomes, a positive patient experience and a healthy professional environment
Treats colleagues, patients, and visitors with dignity and respect at all times and promotes and maintains effective communication and teamwork
Contributes to the achievement of cost efficiency savings for the service, maintains an awareness of resource utilization, exercising care in the ordering and use of staff, equipment and materials
Leads service based Performance Improvement activities and organizational committees as assigned
Contributes to special projects/assignments linked to therapy strategic priorities and professional practice model
Participates in the development programmes that seek to measure outcomes and quality, including audit and research studies, under guidance, support and direction of senior staff
Participates in the continued development, implementation, and evaluation of Sidra Policies and Procedures to align with international best practices
Identifies research opportunities and participates in research
Liaises and works within an interprofessional practice model to ensure high quality, holistic, and safe family centered care
Develops and sustains (maintains) own knowledge, clinical skills (mandatory training), professional (portfolio or profile) )awareness and provides documented evidence of performance and maintenance of skills consistent with position
Acts as an advocate by empowering women/children and their families to make informed choices by providing them with information, support and direction to the relevant support services when appropriate
Maintains confidentiality of women and children at all times
Identifies and alerts members of the medical team to changes in medical status of the patient
Identifies impairments and refer to other medical specialties when necessary
Liaises with the appropriate services in the community and provides transfer/discharge information
Works in collaboration with Case Management to achieve goals and Contributes to decreasing the length of stay/waiting time as per unit specific goal
Documents all relevant information correctly, appropriately and in a timely manner
Participates in community outreach activities e.g. school-based therapy, homecare
Actively welcomes and provides support for new staff/students to the unit and demonstrates transcultural principles in nursing practice
Participates in new staff/student orientation, assists in maintaining a suitable learning environment and acts as a preceptor/mentor in the supervision and teaching of therapy students/ new staff to develop their competence
Participates in retention activities to meet the service specific turnover rate goal
Maintains a professional demeanor and upholds the organizational values at all times
Acts as a role model for junior staff and assists in promoting and sharing knowledge via mentorship/preceptorship programmes in line with relevant research and evidence based practice
Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures for personal and patient safety and for the prevention of healthcare associated infections
Performs other related duties as assigned
Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies
In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra during this pre-operational phase, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS – SELECTION CRITERIA:
Education

Essential – Registered Nurse (3 year graduate programme or equivalent)
Preferred – Post graduate certificate in specialty if applicable for country of origin
Experience

2+ years of recent clinical nursing experience within relevant specialty in a North American Academic Institution or equivalent in UK, Republic of Ireland, EU States, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand
Certification and Licensure

Valid professional Nursing license for country of origin
