1.            ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

 

1.1 REPORT TO : LDR Nurse In-Charge
1.2 RESPONSIBLE FOR : Manages patients care in LDR, ensuring good standard of care is provided

2.            JOB SUMMARY

Provides professional nursing care for LDR patient, receives supervision and direction from the LDR Nurse In-Charge and Supervisor. Work is performed on any shift, as required. Hours are as assigned and may include on call.

 

3.            DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

3.1          ASSESSMENT

3.1.1        Performs a systemic initial and ongoing assessment of the patient’s physical and psychosocial status, specific to the age of the patient.

3.1.2        Assesses patient/family educational needs and readiness to learn utilizing appropriate resources.

3.1.3        Assesses patient/family discharge planning needs, utilizing appropriate resources.

3.2         PLANNING

3.2.1        Collaborates with the patient/family and other members of the health care team to develop and update a plan of care that is consistent with the medical diagnosis and based on the patient’s changing physical, psychosocial and age related requirements.

3.2.2        Established realistic and measurable goals that are culturally sensitive and identifies nursing interventions to achieve the goals.

3.2.3        Plan and organizes patient care activities on a daily basis.

3.3         IMPLEMENTATIONS / INTERVENTION

3.3.1        Participates in initial examination of obstetrical patient’s assigned responsibility for care, treatment, delivery of patients.

3.3.2        Assist in the delivery of infant and perform post partum examinations and treatments to ensure that patient and infant are responding normally.

3.3.3        When deviations from standard are encountered during pregnancy or delivery administers stipulated emergency measures, and inform obstetrician immediately.

3.3.4        Directs activities of other workers.

3.3.5        Participates in the pre-natal and post-natal teaching on health practices.

3.3.6        Demonstrate competency in any emergency situation.

3.3.7        Carries out physician’s orders and reviews nursing and medical orders for accuracy and appropriateness.

3.3.8        Prepares administers and documents the administration of oral, parental and topical medications as prescribed by the physician. He / she is knowledgeable of therapeutic effects, usual dosages, contraindications, side effects and adverse reactions for all drugs and parental fluids administered. Maintains accountability for narcotics and controlled drugs.

3.3.9        Demonstrates competence in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Advanced Life Support and participates as a member of Code Blue hospital wide.

3.3.10    Sets up equipment for and assist physician with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

3.3.11    Performs a wide range of nursing procedures with attention to accuracy, patient safely and comfort, including those requiring strict aseptic technique.

3.3.12    Assists with transfer of patients within the health care facilities.

3.3.13    Teaches patients and their families with emphasis on compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimen. Supports families in meeting the patient’s psychosocial needs.

3.3.14    Maintains a safe, clean and organized environment for the patient/family/visitors and staff.

3.3.15    Demonstrates priority setting and timeliness in responding to patient needs.

3.4         EVALUATION

3.4.1        Evaluates quality of nursing care being delivered and identifies opportunities for improvement.

3.4.2        Evaluates and updates on an ongoing basis the patient’s progress and the appropriateness of the plan of care involving the patient/family and other health team members.

3.4.3        Evaluates and documents the patients/family’s understanding of and response to the plan of care including teaching and discharge plans.

3.4.4        Participates in presenting patient care conferences.

3.5         PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS

3.5.1        Practices within the established standards, policies and procedures.

3.5.2        Recognizes when the patient care needs extend beyond the limits of personal ability and consults appropriate resources.

3.5.3        Provides input during development and review of patient care standards, policies and procedures and participates in the Interdisciplinary Quality Assessment and Program.

3.5.4        Assumes responsibility for professional development and maintain currency in nursing for area of practice.

3.5.5        Uses computer technology as required.

3.5.6        Maintains infection control and safety awareness functions accordingly and initiates corrective action when indicated.

3.5.7        Participates in fire and disaster drills and mock codes as per hospital policy.

3.5.8        Maintains confidentiality of patient/family information.

3.5.9        Uses verbal and nonverbal communication that conveys respect for the patient/family/staff.

3.5.10    Communicates written information in a legible, accurate, concise and timely manner.

3.5.11    Documents in a manner that is consistent with the nursing documentation guidelines.

3.5.12    Takes responsibility for the unit in the absence of the Nurse In-Charge as assigned

3.5.13    Establishes and maintains effective working relationship with other members of the health care team.

 

4.            QUALIFICATION, LICENSURE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL  SKILLS

4.1.      A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing/Diploma in Nursing.

4.2.      Minimum 2 years nursing experience in LDR.

4.3.      BLS Provider, completion of clinical competency in CTG procedure.

4.4.      Current licensure in country of origin and with DHA license to practice Dubai, UAE.

4.5.      Fluent spoken and written English. Spoken Arabic desirable.
